A testimony of God's faithfulness-and the life-changing impact of Marriage Mentors
Brent and Kerry Jo married on September 2, 1995, determined to build a Christ-centered home for their two children, Luke and Hannah. Their family loved
Jesus deeply. They served, they worshiped, and they did their best to raise their children in faith.
But even in a home anchored in Christ, their marriage slipped into a place neither of them expected.
By 2017, years of hurt, anger, and misunderstanding had built walls so high that both Brent and Kerry Jo felt trapped. They weren't lacking faith–they were simply stuck. Caught in a cycle of bitterness and frustration they couldn't seem to break.
The hardest blow came from the two people they loved most.
Both Luke and Hannah, exhausted from watching their parents struggle, finally said, "Y'all just need to get a divorce."
For Brent and Kerry Jo, it was heartbreaking. They knew the truth. They knew God's design for marriage. Yet they couldn't find a way out of the ditch they
were in.
And still...God wasn't finished.
The turning point
One day, they sat down with their pastor at Milestone Church in Keller. Pastor Mike and his wife Mary listened, prayed, and then introduced Brent and Kerry
Jo to a ministry they believed could offer real hope: Marriage Mentors.
During that meeting, Brent shared something he felt God had whispered to him–that one day he and Kerry Jo would minister to other couples through
marriage ministry.
Kerry Jo's response?
"Yeah...you and your next wife."
They all laughed, but behind the humor was real pain–and the belief that their marriage might never recover.
Still, they agreed to try Marriage Mentors. After spending time in mentoring sessions, something remarkable happened. Their Mentors looked at them and
said: "What are y'all doing? You know what to do. You don't need us anymore."
It was as if a light switched on.
We weren't powerless. We weren't broken beyond repair. We just needed someone to walk with us–to remind us of the Biblical truths we already knew and
help us live them out again.
Restored...and now restoring others
Once their marriage stabilized, Brent and Kerry Jo sensed God calling them to something bigger. They began mentoring other couples and haven't stopped
since.
Since 2017:
- They've walked four couples through the pre-marriage program
- They've mentored six married couples
- And they regularly receive calls and texts from couples they've never met–couples who were sent specifically to them because word has spread about
the transformation God brought to their marriage
And here's the beautiful part:
Every single couple who has completed the Marriage Mentors curriculum with Brent and Kerry Jo is still married.
Every one!
Luke and Hannah, once begging them to divorce, now get to witness something completely different: the goodness of God, the power of commitment, and
the beauty of fighting for your marriage even when it looks impossible.
